Stanushina is an old Macedonian autochthone grape variety that can be found only in the Tikvesh wine region in Macedonia. In the last 3-4 decades of the XX century, grape growers have begun to abandon the production of this variety due to the introduction of new international varieties. As a result, there was a real danger that this variety would disappear completely. Since 2005 Popova Kula winery is the only fully licensed winery that works with this variety in Macedonia and in the world. We are glad to see that several family wineries operating under different license started to work with this variety and we hope that other fully licensed wineries in the region will follow this initiative for the production of wines from domestic grape varieties.

Also, we are extremely happy that recently we had the first ever scientific conference about Stanushina. We will continue to work toward fulfillment of our mission to reaffirm Stanushina in the region and to offer it on the world wine market.

Demir Kapija is the southernmost part of Tikvesh and has the most sunny days of any wine sub-region in the Balkans. Numerous and long sunny days give a wonderful opportunity to produce grapes with high quality and if left for late harvest to get unique wines with deep taste and amazing aromas. This product line consists of unique blended wines -one red and one white. Our initial idea was to create rarely seen blends on the world market. Vranec and Cabernet Sauvignon as varieties that love each other and our vineyards of those two varieties are next to each other. Those two varieties just dance together in our Kalesh. In the Altan we have the reconciliation of Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with Muscat Ottonel. This product line is a proof that that making blends is not a science but an art.

Popova Kula wines from the Classic line have a dynamic, fruity, well-structured with young style. This line contains a wealth of flavors, great for any occasion. to wipe out this unique variety of grape forever. It is the Popova
Kula Winery's intention, and privilege, to reintroduce this grape to the
region and share our fantastic variety of wines with the world. We hope
that other wineries in the region will follow this initiative and continue
the tradition of wine production using domestic varieties of grape. As of
now, Popova Kula is the only producer in the world of this variety.
